Air Battle of South Korea

The Air Battle of South Korea was a crucial air campaign during the initial phase of the Korean War, taking place between June 25 and July 20, 1950. The opposing forces were the air forces of North Korea and the United States.

First Air Combat and Amphibious Landing

On June 27, 1950, North Korean aircraft engaged in the first air combat of the Korean War, known as the Battle of Suwon, against US aircraft. Simultaneously, North Korean troops launched an amphibious landing at Kangnung on the east coast.

Soviet Control and Infiltration

The Soviet diplomatic mission in North Korea, established in January 1949, became the primary mechanism for maintaining Soviet control over the country. By June 1950, every high-ranking North Korean official had received extensive training in the USSR.
